On Thursday morning, a 51-year-old Otisfield woman sustained serious and life-threatening injuries after being hit by a 2006 Chevy pickup truck while jogging on Route 121.

Investigation Reveals Serious Crash
At approximately 6:30 a.m., a 911 call reported a crash involving a pedestrian on Route 121 in Otisfield, according to an Oxford County Sheriff’s Office news release. The initial findings revealed that the 56-year-old Otisfield man was traveling south in his pickup truck when he struck the woman, who was running north.

The woman was transported to Central Maine Medical Center but was later transferred to Maine Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. Thankfully, law enforcement investigators believe impairment, speed, or driver inattention were not involved in the crash at this time.

Poor Weather Conditions at Scene of Crash
However, due to poor shot visibility caused by the adverse lighting and oncoming vehicle headlights, weather, and light conditions were reported as “poor.” Furthermore, the crash at the scene was reconstructed and processed for multiple hours, which caused traffic to be diverted near the area. As a result, Route 121 was shut down for several hours.

Peaceful Resolution Due to Emergency Services
Fortunately, due to the quick response of the Maine State Police, Otisfield Fire Department, and Pace Rescue, no further catastrophic injury or loss of life was reported. Furthermore, the driver of the pickup truck involved is cooperating with investigators and is now facing a peaceful resolution.

Additionally, LifeFlight of Maine was unfortunately unable to reach the scene due to the aforementioned weather conditions. As of now, the road has reopened, and the latest news updates can be found by downloading the NEWS CENTER Maine mobile app.
